What is Prayer? The meaning of prayer, a small definition, is talking to God. But really, it is more than just talking to God. Prayer is a relationship with God. You get to know God better through prayer. Prayer is an important issue in our lives these days. Too many times Christians expect God to help them, but they do not make their requests known unto God (Philippians 4:6). This world definitely needs our prayers. Men ought always to pray and not give up (Luke 18:1). 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will hear their land." God is saying here that if we pray to Him, and ask Him for forgiveness, He will surely forgive us our sins. Matthew 6:5-6 says, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." This means that you should not pray to get approval from men. You need to pray so that you can get approval from God. Romans 8:26 says, "We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes with us." This means that we ourselves might not know what to pray for, but the Holy Spirit will tell us what to pray. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, " Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." This means that we should thank God through our prayers, for that is what God wants us to do. -Written by Derek
